I have been an outdoors enthusiast from early on. But only later on could I start to fulfill
my wishes like canoeing in Canada, a winter trip to Alaska, selfplanned tours in the Black
Forest, Germany and to pursue my career in the outdoors. Carsten is happy that I enjoy hiking,
too.
I started guiding white water rafting trips, canyoning tours and carried on with teaching
snowboarding and scuba diving and with teamtraining activities.
For a couple of years I had nourished my desire to hike the GR 11 in the Spanish Pyrenees.
But until then I had worked as guide during the summer seasons and I hardly could have missed a
third of the season. In 2004 after I met Carsten and then after I accepted the job offer on
the Canary Islands, Spain, which are seasonfree the idea arose to at long last hike this
trail with him. So June 2005 we hiked a greater part of it.
The successful accomplishment of the GR11 and discussions with Carsten about future trails
lead to the decision to thru-hike Pacific Crest Trails in 2006.
